According to Santé publique France, more than 55,000 deaths were attributable to hypertension in 2021, representing 8.5% of all deaths in France. 36% of hospitalizations for cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, or kidney diseases were related to hypertension, representing 385,000 patients.
Hypertension is an abnormally high blood pressure in the arteries. Often silent, it can remain asymptomatic for a long time, which makes it all the more dangerous. Over the long term, it strains the heart and damages blood vessels, increasing the risk of serious complications.
Let’s make time to check our blood pressure regularly; it should not exceed 135/85 when measured at home.
